Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Resurgence is leading DARAJA with its key partners, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) and the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute (EMI), in Addis Ababa. From 2023-2025, the DARAJA service and partnership, supported by the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa programme and Lloyds Register Foundation, extended its service to the city of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
Jamaica

During 2020-2023 Resurgence was a key partner in BReTCAT (Building Resilience Through Climate Adaptation Technologies) where its DARAJA principles, developed to enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities in large urban areas to weather and climate, were applied for the first time to a small island developing state.

The DARAJA service and partnership, originally piloted through the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa programme in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam during 2018-2020, reached 982,000 residents and achieved strong results in terms of enabling communities to take action in advance on the provision of early warnings. From 2023-2025, supported by the WISER programme and Lloyds Register Foundation, DARAJA continued its service in Nairobi.

In Turkana County, Kenya, Resurgence delivers work under the WAHAFA programme since 2025, led by Welthungerhilfe in partnership with the DARAJA initiative. This work focuses on strengthening community resilience to climate shocks by improving access to timely, relevant, and inclusive early warning information.

From 2025, the DARAJA service and partnership, supported by the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa  programme, extended its service to Kenya’s secondary city of Mombasa.
Kampala, Uganda

From 2023-2025, the DARAJA service and partnership, supported by the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa programme and Lloyds Register Foundation, extended its service to the city of Kampala in Uganda. From 2026, with continued support from the WISER programme, DARAJA will expand its services to include an Extreme Heat component in Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and cities across Sudan. The programme will engage media and health sectors through co-design workshops, strengthen dissemination via media partnerships, and build media capacity to interpret and communicate heat-related weather and climate information. It will also support community awareness campaigns and the development of extreme heat-focused Early Action Plans.
