About Resurgence
Resurgence is an award-winning, non-profit social enterprise specialising in urban climate risk, communication, and resilience across the Global South. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in the United Kingdom, we operate across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. For over a decade, we have transformed how vulnerable populations access and act on weather and climate information — working with governments, meteorological agencies, Red Cross societies, and community organisations to translate complex forecasts into clear, actionable early warnings for floods, heatwaves, droughts, and sand storms. Our donors and partners are blue chip and include the Lloyds Register Foundation, UK FCDO, the Met Office WISER Programme and the World Food Programme (WFP) with whom we have a new global partnership.
Resurgence is entering an ambitious new phase of growth, with a vision to ensure that up to one billion people benefit from life-saving early warning information and actionable climate intelligence. We are seeking exceptional leaders who share our commitment to inclusive climate resilience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a senior leader with expertise in risk communication, behavioural science, public engagement, advertising, or strategic communications to join our Board. This role is critical in strengthening how climate risk information is translated into clear, trusted, and actionable messaging — particularly in climate-vulnerable contexts.
The successful candidate will bring experience shaping communication strategies that influence behaviour, build trust, and reach diverse audiences at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance on risk communication frameworks and behaviour change methodologies.
- Strengthen messaging strategies to ensure early warning information drives real-world action.
- Advise on public communications, brand positioning, and narrative development.
- Support development of culturally relevant and linguistically inclusive communication strategies.
- Contribute expertise in media strategy, advertising, or large-scale public engagement campaigns.
- Provide strategic oversight on trust-building and misinformation risk mitigation.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Senior experience in risk communication, behavioural science, advertising, public communications, or strategic media.
- Track record of leading large-scale public campaigns or behavioural change initiatives.
- Experience translating complex information into clear, actionable public messaging.
- Lived or substantial professional experience in the Global South, ideally in climate-vulnerable or development contexts (required).
- Strong understanding of cultural nuance, trust-building, and audience segmentation.
- Board or governance experience (desirable).
- Alignment with climate justice, equity, and community-led resilience values.
- Preference will be given to UK-based candidates to support effective governance and occasional in-person engagement; however, exceptional candidates from other geographies will also be considered.
Time Commitment
- Quarterly Board meetings (approx. 2 hours each).
- Preparation and advisory engagement as required (approx. a few hours per quarter).
How to Apply
Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV and a short expression of interest to the Founder and CEO of Resurgence, Mark Harvey (mark@resurgence.io) by 31 July 2026 outlining relevant experience and motivation for joining the Board. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet members of the Resurgence Board and Executive team.
