Resurgence is a UK-based international non-profit that develops climate risk, resilience, and multi-hazard early warning services. Clients and partners include the UK Met Office/FCDO, IDB, World Bank GFDRR, Red Cross Climate Centre, UNDRR, and Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Programme Overview:  

DARAJA bridges the gap between weather information providers and users, helping people act on forecasts to improve climate resilience. Launched in 2018 under the UK Met Office’s WISER 2 programme in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, it is now being expanded to five East African cities, with more regions in the pipeline.

Position Overview:  

The Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of two DARAJA projects, ensuring timely, scope-compliant delivery. You will manage teams, engage stakeholders, and support other projects as needed. The role is remote, but field visits will be required, with a preference for candidates based in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Strategy:  
    • Lead planning and execution of DARAJA projects, aligning activities with objectives and timelines.  
    • Develop detailed project plans, set objectives, and define deliverables.  
    • Integrate climate adaptation best practices into the project.  
    • Ensure sustainable project outcomes, empowering local institutions and communities.  
    • Support partners in developing training and resources for community stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination:  
    • Act as the primary contact for stakeholders, including communities, government, NGOs, and donors.  
    • Build relationships to ensure successful delivery and engagement.  
    • Organise meetings with partners, keeping all informed on progress.  
    • Collaborate with Resurgence’s cross-functional teams.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting:  
    • Collaborate with the M&E team ensuring performance indicators are tracked and reported.  
    • Prepare progress reports for internal teams, donors, and stakeholders.  
    • Identify and manage risks, proposing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Financial Management:  
    • Manage project budgets in collaboration with the Finance and Admin team.  
    • Track financial expenditures, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.  
    • Work with finance to prepare donor financial reports.
  • Risk Management & Adaptation:  
    • Identify and manage environmental, social, and operational risks.  
    • Adjust project activities based on changing climate conditions or challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, climate change, or project management.  
  • 3-5 years of project management experience in climate adaptation, resilience, or sustainability.  
  • Proven track record managing large projects with multiple stakeholders.  
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development.  
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.  
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting and donor compliance.  
  • Experience with international donors or government-funded projects is a plus.  
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.  
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Notion, Asana, MS Project).  
  • Willingness to travel within East Africa.
