Term: 3 years, renewable by mutual consent.
About Resurgence
Resurgence is an award-winning, non-profit social enterprise specialising in urban climate risk, communication, and resilience across the Global South. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in the United Kingdom, we operate across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
For over a decade, we have transformed how vulnerable populations access and act on weather and climate information — working with governments, meteorological agencies, Red Cross societies, and community organisations to translate complex forecasts into clear, actionable early warnings for floods, heatwaves, droughts and sand storms.
Our donors and partners are blue-chip organisations and include the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, UK FCDO, the Met Office WISER Programme and the World Food Programme (WFP), with whom we have a new global partnership.
Resurgence is entering an ambitious new phase of growth, with a vision to ensure that up to one billion people benefit from life-saving early warning information and actionable climate intelligence. We are seeking exceptional leaders who share our commitment to inclusive climate resilience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional leader with deep experience in community resilience, inclusion and participatory development across the Global South to join our Board.
This role is intended to ensure that the lived realities, priorities and knowledge of climate-vulnerable communities continue to shape Resurgence’s strategic direction as we expand internationally and embrace new technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The successful candidate will bring practical leadership experience, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and a strong understanding of how resilience is built through participation, local ownership and trusted community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance on community-centred approaches to climate resilience and early warning systems.
- Ensure that the perspectives, priorities and lived experiences of climate-vulnerable communities inform Board discussions and organisational strategy.
- Champion inclusive, participatory and locally led approaches to programme design, implementation and evaluation.
- Advise on strategies that ensure women and girls, people with disabilities (PWDs), older people, displaced populations and other marginalised groups are meaningfully included in programme design, decision-making and evaluation.
- Strengthen organisational practice around participatory methodologies, co-design processes and community feedback mechanisms that enable local voices to shape programme priorities and continuous improvement.
- Promote approaches that improve accessibility, trust, behavioural response and the practical usability of climate information and early warning services.
- Provide insight into how technological innovation, including AI-enabled communication and decision-support tools, can be developed and deployed in ways that are inclusive, ethical and responsive to local realities.
- Support strategic relationships with community organisations, civil society networks and humanitarian partners where appropriate.
- Act as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board on issues relating to inclusion, localisation, climate justice and long-term community impact.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Senior leadership experience in community development, humanitarian action, climate resilience, disability inclusion, public health, local governance or international development.
- Significant professional experience working with or within climate-vulnerable communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America or Small Island Developing States.
- Demonstrated expertise in participatory methodologies and community-led approaches that actively engage local populations in programme design, implementation, monitoring and decision-making.
- Demonstrated commitment to ensuring the meaningful participation and inclusion of people with disabilities (PWDs) and other marginalised or underrepresented groups.
- Experience of working with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), grassroots organisations or community-based networks would be highly valued.
- Lived experience of climate vulnerability or leadership within communities directly affected by climate risks would be particularly welcomed.
- Strong commitment to locally led development, climate justice and equitable partnerships.
- Strategic mindset combined with practical operational understanding and sound judgement.
Board or governance experience is desirable but not essential. - High integrity and a deep commitment to empowering communities through partnership rather than top-down intervention.
- Preference will be given to UK-based candidates to support effective governance and occasional in-person engagement; however, exceptional candidates from other geographies will also be considered.
Time Commitment
- Quarterly Board meetings (approximately 2 hours each).
- Preparation and advisory engagement as required (approximately a few hours per quarter).
How to Apply
Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV and a short expression of interest to the Founder and CEO of Resurgence, Mark Harvey (mark@resurgence.io) by 31 July 2026, outlining their relevant experience and motivation for joining the Board. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet members of the Resurgence Board and Executive Team.
